Neck pain treatment in Worthing, Sussex
There are many reasons why you may be suffering from neck pain and stiffness. They tend however to fall into 2 main categories, traumatic and non-traumatic.
Traumatic
In traumatic neck pain, which may occur in sport, or through injury, the neck is forced beyond its normal range of motion.
This can result in the muscles and joints becoming painfully inflamed and spasmed, leading to severe stiffness and, in some cases, severe disability.
Whiplash related disorders can be complex conditions to treat, as not only can there be the pain and stiffness, but there may be headache, dizziness, emotional strain and neurological issues too.
Non-traumatic
Non traumatic neck pain can come on suddenly out of the blue or can build up slowly over weeks or months.
Some of the more common reasons for it are;
- Poor posture for example from sitting badly at a computer or slouching at a workstation
- Sleeping awkwardly, maybe on your front or with poor pillow support
- Arthritic or wear and tear in your neck which can cause stiffness, pain and grating noises.
The pain experienced in the neck, may radiate up in to the head and travel down the upper back, shoulders and arms. There may be accompanying pins and needles, numbness and weakness in the arm or hand, due to nerve irritation and headaches or dizziness too.
